Dan Moran – War hero and wise citizen

Dan & Trey.

Dan, war hero converted into businessman.

Dan isn’t a regular dad. He’s a war hero, a former Marine, who went to Iraq twice for “stabilization operations”.

Until that day, in 2006, when a bomb exploded under the armored vehicle he was travelling in with some of his team members. “50% of my body suffered a third-degree burnt. I can’t sweat anymore. I must live in air-conditioned. And my immune system isn’t as efficient as it used to be, so I’m more likely to get sick. When you spend two years in a hospital, the first two weeks in come, grass is greener; sky’s bluer and you spend more time with you kids. Some didn’t have the chance to survive”.

AMERICA’S NECESSARY GRANDEUR

“I think not only soldiers go to war, but whole families. That’s why we fight. For the love of our country. It’s not perfect. We make mistakes. But everyone must know what the US stand for. This is not behaving like a cowboy, telling what is black, what is white. War is a terrible thing. But it’s sometimes necessary. And I have friends around the world, in Europe, Asia and Middle East, who are worried to see America loose its leadership”.

Beyond the debate on army finances opposing the two main candidates running for President, Dan Moran thinks Barack Obama’s foreign policy is “a complete failure”. “It’s true that the questioning of US leadership isn’t new. And it’s not going to stop. But even if I’m proud of the operations we have with our allies, I think we left Iraq too soon and I fear that my kids or their friends will have to go again”.

MITT ROMNEY, A CHOICE BY DEFAULT

Despite his reject of Barack Obama’s policies, voting for Mitt Romney isn’t automatic for Dan Moran. “I support the Republican party candidate. But during the Republican primary, it’s Texas governor Rick Perry who had my support. You may not agree with everything he says. But at least you know what he stands for. Mitt Romney, I’m not sure what he stands for”.
